Curriculum for Autumn Term 1

This half term our focus is settling in.

We will be looking at how it feels to be in a new place, surrounded by new people and how we can manage these new feelings. We are excited to learn about our new friends, about each other’s families and what can make us different or similar to other people.

We are also learning school routines, how to take care of each other and our learning environment.

We will be enjoying many stories and activities. Our learning is generally founded in children’s interests and so can take different paths for individual children. In addition, this term we will also set up some learning opportunities centred around bears. For example, stories will include Goldilocks and the Three Bears and maths may involve serving porridge in the correct sized bowls.

As we settle into school, we look forward to beginning ReadWrite inc. phonics, alongside the rest of the school- some letter sheets will be coming home in our phonics folders and it would be great if you could help us practise. We will also be bringing home Oxford Reading Tree books in our book bags; we will be developing our ability to tell stories from pictures and using narrative, as well as decoding sounds for reading. Other home learning will often be discussion based. A theme and key ideas will be selected for you to talk about with your child with the aim of developing their knowledge of the world around them and their speaking and listening skills.
