Curriculum for Autumn Term 1
For the first two weeks of term, our Science topic will be ‘Humans’.
These two weeks will have a Scientific focus.
Science Topic vocabulary to understand and use: producer, predator, prey, chain, environment, digestion, carnivore, herbivore, mouth, tongue, teeth, oesophagus, stomach and small and large intestine, enzyme, nutrients, blood, saliva, carbohydrates, proteins, villi, incisors, canines, molars, consumer, habitat.
As Readers we will be reading in depth about food, nutrition and the digestive system in humans and animals, including teeth and how different parts of our insides work. We will also read about animals as part of food chains.
As Writers we will be recording our plans and predictions for the investigations we will carry out, as well as writing about our discoveries and findings during these experiments. (Please see more details under scientists).
As Mathematicians we will be beginning to explore place value, including value of digits in numbers, rounding to nearest 10, 100 and 1000, comparing and ordering numbers, partitioning numbers, negative numbers and Roman Numerals.
As Scientists we will be investigating the digestive process in humans and animals, in addition to learning about food groups and the different functions of our teeth. We will be planning and carrying out an experiment with bread to demonstrate the stages of digestion, and using this to draft and write an explanation text.
As Artists we will be basing our work on the Digestive System in humans.
PE lessons take place on Tuesday (Northern Lights) and Thursday (The Jungle Books) Year 4 will also have Swimming lessons this year, which will take place on Thursday (separate classes).
Homework will be handed out on Friday and will be due back in the following Friday. It will consist of a mixture of tasks including spellings, reading and other activities related to the subjects and topic being covered this term.
